Renegade, 'Barbara' Pinot Noir 2020 Magnum
- In stock, ready to ship
- Inventory on the way
A rare cuvee from Renegade with only 400 bottles made. Barbara 2020 is made from a 3 country Pinot Noir blend Suffolk 10%, Pfalz 30%, and Lombardy 60%. All the same vintage and same winemaking but 3 different vineyards. Aged in new and secondary French oak. It's floral, spicy, tobacco notes, and really well balanced. The idea is that they take the best of English acidity, German freshness, and aromatics with Italian backbone and smoothness. It's a wine we really love. The face Barbara is actually the wife of Alf, the 2019 Portuguese castelao number they made!.
Renegade isn't a traditional producer as they don't have a vineyard and instead buy their grapes depending on quality from growers in the UK and as far and wide as Albania. This may seem mad to a lot of traditionalists however a great line/description on their about us page is "Just like a chef who can select in-season vegetables from the best growers, we can change suppliers and pick the best grapes depending on the weather, regional variances and other external factors" which when you think about it seems obvious right? Why have the restraints of having to use the same grapes year in year out even if you know the previous vintage was better? Anyway, we have long been fans of these guys not because of their ethos and culture or their incredibly original labeling but because their wines absolutely BANG!
