A winery we hold super close to our heart, Alsace-based, Domaine Muller-Koeberle. David took over the family estate in 2012 along with his partner Marianne to completely redefine Natural Winemaking in the region and turn the family 27 Hectare estate into one of the most progressive and biodiverse farms not only in France but the world.
Fast forward to 2024 and the winery is now one of the pioneers in innovative natural winemaking, spearheading agroforestry which encourages biodiversity and cohabitation between the numerous different species and nature in the region. On our recent visit, we saw firsthand how agroforestry can help modern-day growers with David showcasing a new project of growing fruit trees within the vines to assist with increasing the temperature of the soil in Winter and providing shade during the summer.
With the latest vintages just arriving we've picked out two of the best wines for you guys to get a taste of what DMK is all about...
First up, Gewurztraminer 2021 aka the Fox, which is arguably the greatest Orange Wine to come out of France (we know it's a big statement). Made from 100% Alsatian Gewurztraminer which after being hand harvested are whole bunch macerated for 4 days, slowly pressed for around 10 hours, and then left on lees for a touch over a year. The wine delivers on so many fronts, a label up there with the best we've seen and designed by local tattoo artist 'Gypsy King' but more so on an incredible flavour-filled journey from the first sip to the last. On the nose, it's all perfumed grapefruit which moves on to a more deep and complex tropical foray with Pineapple, mango, and just a tint of white pepper on the finish. For us, this is the king of Orange Wines!

Second in this duo of dreams and also one of our all-time favourites from Domaine Muller-Koeberle, Rainette 2021. A Pet Nat made from a blend of Muscat and Riesling. The original and O.G sparkling from the Domaine, the Riesling spent over a year on lees before being passed through the latest harvests Muscat skins, the result, a super aromatic wine but with the freshness of a Riesling. This isn't any light and flowery sparkling wine, this packs a real punch on all levels carried by super soft popping bubbles and an incredibly moreish line of acidity. Expect notes of honey, apricot, and orange rind, chill this right down, pour with friends and you're in natty wine heaven.
