Recently dubbed as ‘hipster bubbles’, Pétillant Naturel (or Pet Nat for short) is essentially a natural sparkling wine. The majority are naturally made, meaning that the wine has been made with minimal intervention from the winemaker during production, who instead leaves nature to do its job and develop the carbonation and finished product in the bottle.
Given we've had so many new sparklers through the door recently we've rounded the 3 baddest bubbles into our new curated pack "Pet Nat Posse".
First up is Splash!, a banging and lively 9% Pet Nat made without sulphur from a plot of 40 year old Semillon vines grown in clay and limestone. Super zesty lemon and lime aromas at first with a touch of fresh meadows and plenty of fizz. A great fun wine!
One of the coolest labels in the game, Pash Rash from producers Borachio (who are without a doubt the leaders in quirky label art and names), with this one which did not disappoint. Made from Mount Compass Pinot Noir, picked, pressed and bottled. Simple...ish? This year sees quenchy grapefruit flavours married with fresh strawberry in a delicious fizzy hit. It's essential that this is served chilled!
And finally a certified all-round banger of a wine and one we tried but failed to secure earlier in the year! Pino Citron is a pet-nat made from a concoction of Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc bursting with grapefruit juice and green apple vibes and a silky touch of salinity. One for the acid lovers here!
