2019 Vintage! Partida Creus continue on their quest of making outstanding natural wines, with the new 2019 CX. This vintage is particularly banging with saline, floral and lavender notes and strong orange rind note on the nose. Absolutely banging!

Partida Creus is the project from two Italians (Massimo and Antonella) who now produce just south of Barcelona in the Tarragona region. The thought process of the PC project was to work with historical and forgotten local varietals that in many cases were not recognised by the D.O. of the area: Penedès. The pair worked tirelessly for years buying up tiny plots of abandoned vineyards scattered around the area where mostly unknown varietals such as Garrut, Vinyater, Samsó and Queixal de Llop grew. The project has constantly produced banger after banger, all of which have a very distinctive house style - raw, natural and pungent reds, and funky, fresh, expressive whites.

The Cottell family vineyard is a 1.1ha block of relatively old vines in the very beautiful Summertown/ Ashton valley that is home to many a great vineyard. The northerly aspect allows the fruit to ripen fully and leave behind many of the less desirable Sauvignon characters. It’s a generous and full-bodied wine with great depth and character which still holds a great acid line. An absolute belter and already an established fan favourite!

Renegade, 'Jai' Skin Contact Ortega 2019

Hand harvested then shipped by Renegade in refrigerated trucks at 2˚C direct to the London winery.

Wine fully made in London, UK.

What is Ortega? It’s a white skinned grape variety that was created in 1948 in Germany. It’s a cross of Müller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe. As such it really likes the cooler climate the UK can offer and it is a very aromatic grape variety, that loves a touch, or in this case, a shed load of skin contact.

This wine was made by destemming the grapes over a wire mesh by hand. Essentially they rub the bunches and let the grapes drop through into the fermentation tank. They do this so as to be very gentle and reduce skin breakage. The grapes then start fermenting spontaneously, without the addition of any yeast - otherwise known as wild fermentation. Naturally present yeasts are already within the winery environment and on the grape skins. Think sourdough. No additions of sugar, nutrients, or de-acidification methods/any other winemaking was used to make this wine.

The grapes are left to ferment in contact with the skins (with daily manual punch downs) for nearly 3 weeks before being pressed off and transferred to used French oak barrels. The barrels were previously used to age Chardonnay. This use of used oak, allows the wine to age softly with the benefit of micro-oxidation through the grain of the oak and also helps the wine go through malolactic fermentation where the natural malic acid is converted to lactic acid.

What’s the wine like? Well as it’s completely unfiltered and unfined it’s a little hazy to look at in the glass. On the nose, it’s really aromatic, think grapefruit and jasmine. It’s a delicate floral punch. A little similar to a skin contact Bacchus (if you know our wine Rahul) but less elderflowery and peachy and more floral with a citrus burst… Soft and rounded on the palate and not punchy in terms of alcohol. 2019 was a good year but it ended a little cool and wet and as such, this wine only sits at 11% alcohol.

Renegade, 'Kyra' Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Renegade, 'Kyra' Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Regular price £24.00

Tax included. Shipping calculated at checkout.

Hand harvested then shipped by Renegade in refrigerated trucks at 2˚C direct to the London winery from Bordeaux, France.

Dry. Crisp, Zesty, Minerally, Tropically, Savoury. Fresh and approachable.

So, Kyra is a clean, fresh, Sauvignon Blanc. Most of their wines use naturally present yeasts (think sourdough). With this wine, however, they wanted a clean, crisp, innovative style of Sauvignon so we used a yeast developed in South Africa in collaboration with an Australian University. We wanted to add a touch of New World to brilliant Old-World grapes.

It is a hard wine to place style wise. It is a little like a Sancerre, but with an element of South African/NZ Sauvignon added to the mix. Not crazy tropical, but not as subtle as many French styles. Hard to find a hater for this one.

Fermented in temperature controlled stainless streel tanks. Minimum added sulphur, filtered, no fining. No oak.

Partida Creus, BN

Partida Creus, BN

Blanco Natural or BN for short is pretty much the basic entry-level white in PC's portfolio. Predominently Macabeo, it also has a small amount of Cartoixa Vermell, a white grape with blushed pink skins that gives the BN a peachy twang thanks to a very brief bit of skin maceration. The juice is briny, with savoury aromas of hay that might sound disgusting but all works in tandem to produce a fricking awesome wine.

Partida Creus is the project from two Italians (Massimo and Antonella) who now produce just south of Barcelona in the Tarragona region. The thought process of the PC project was to work with historical and forgotten local varietals that in many cases were not recognised by the D.O. of the area: Penedès. Xavier Goodridge has been around the Natural Wine scene for a while now but his 2017 releases have really risen him to another level.

This is a delicious blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc from the Yarra Valley, with equal parts funk and fruit. It's an amber wine which doesn't let style get in the way of drinkability. There's plenty of palate-coating texture and whisper of tannin but with a core of glorious ripe fruit which makes this blend very hard to put down. One to Watch fo sho!

Sous le Végétal is a super exciting collab between legendary French maestro Patrick Bouju, young Greek winemaker Jason Ligas and Ochin Clovis (You may remember him from Action Bronson's hit VICE series "From Paris With Love").

Out of all this projects wines, Livia represents the best entry-point to start the journey through the Sous le Végétal project. Livia is a broad, full direct-press white wine fermented half in steel and half in huge 500-litre barrels. The soil type here is mainly limestone-based and the vines stand over a mixture of schist and quartz, lending the wines a super stony salinity. The wine has a creamy mouth-coating texture, floral aromas and a finish that goes on, and on, and on...

A wine made with the intention to ‘illustrate the beauty of nature and remind us of its fragility if exploited’. It is being sold to raise awareness for and support local farmers and residents that have come together to protest against plans to build an industrial geothermal electricity plant on the banks of Lago di Bolsena. A long, gentle press of Moscato Giallo has produced a super delicate wine, perfumed with gentle aromas of citrus and herbs. Just a few cases made it to the UK and they won’t last long.

The Le Coste duo are Clementine Bouveron and Gianmarco Antonuzzi who met in France while working for the guru Gerard Schueller in Alsace, France. The pair spent over 2years working with some of France’s most renowned producers before deciding to move back to Gianmarco’s village of Gradoli in Lazio’s north. Since moving back the pair have reinvigorated local grapes and are now making some of the most respected and original wines in the Natural Wine game.

We know we shouldnt have a favourite, But.... Theodora is a beautiful blend of Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling from organic vines in Burgenland. A tiny amount of time on skins and aged in old large casks makes for an incredibly balanced wine, bright, nervy and full of character. Super tiny allocation.

Gut Oggau is a 14 hectare Austrian wine estate located in the province of Burgenland by the Lake Neusiedl. The estate is run by Eduard Tscheppe and his wife Stephanie, daughter of a 2 Michelin star restaurant owner. It is a certified biodynamic estate with each wine coming from a single plot of vines with different terroirs showing different expressions in the wine. The individual personalities of the wine are expressed in the faces on the labels created by Jung von Matt (German designer) and brought together in the Gut Oggau family tree. A unique and fascinating way of describing the wines, they taste every bit as intriguing as the labels suggest.
