Lammidia are without doubt one of the most recognisable bottles around, with stunning artwork along with incredible natural winemaking. Lammidia is the brainchild of Davide Gentile & Marco Guilani, situated in the coastal town of Pescara, Abruzzo. The pair buy grapes from around 5 hectares of vines in the hills above Pescara and two 1⁄2 hectare sites nearer the coast, mainly Montepulciano and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo but they also have a little Pinot Noir, Barbera, and Moscato.
With the pair's latest wines landing, we've picked out the 3 best (in our opinion) bottles for you lucky lot to discover what all the hype surrounding Lammidia is really all about.
First up is Miscela 2021, a wine expertly made with a mix of red and white grapes. In previous vintages, it's been missing a little something but the 2021 has the addition of heaps of acidity that makes this honestly the best vintage we've tried. Spontaneous fermentation and aging in steel tanks. High-acid Rosato with heaps of cranberry, raspberry, and herbs
Region: Abruzzo, Italy
Grapes: Montepulciano, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Passerina, Malvasia
Last up is a brand-new wine from the boys from Abruzzo. The 65125 ( the postal code of Pescara the town where the winery is based ) is made from 100% Syrah that undertakes a short carbonic maceration followed by aging in steel tanks. An unconventional natural red wine as per the Lammidia way made in a South of France style, fruit-forward at first with well-balanced Syrah spices on the back palate.
